All for under $9!

Today my sister-in-law and I went for coffee. On the way to the coffee shop I drove past Value Village and a "little voice" told me I should stop. While chatting with sister she mentioned that she'd felt like she should go check on VV, we decided then that we were supposed to go so after coffee we headed over. No wonder we were supposed to go, we found so many great finds! I found 4 games, each for $1.99. I got Scrabble Junior, Guess who? (love that game!), a Magic School bus adventure pack (with an adorable Liz keychain that was still in the bag) and a cool block geo art activity. All for under $9! Yay!

So, I took some pictures of my classroom so far, just to document how far it's come from (once it gets some improvements!)

The front of the class. I'll have 14/15 kids in my class next year so I set the (stupid) double desks up in groups of 4. I need the desks to be height adjusted as I got some from the Kindies and some from the grade 5s, I feel like Goldilocks "this desk is too small! This desk is too big!"

The yellow sticky note on the board is asking that those green blackboards be moved next door as the old K class has no boards and I asked for whiteboards (I hate the feeling of chalk dust on my hands).

This picture is my desk and old beat up filing cabinet. The entrance (yes, I'm in a portable class, personally I like it- quiet, own heat, own bathroom) is on the left. I have my desk at the back of the class, trying it there. Technically if I do sit during classtime (doubtful, I never sat in my practicums) the kids can see me from their seats so they'll know I'm watching. I put all the class texts and teacher's guides for Math and Language Arts on the shelves directly behind my desk, convenient and away from little hands.

My reading corner! I like it already. I got the fishy mats at Ikea when we were on holidays in May for $7 each. The chair and pillows are from the old Kindie class, I just want a comfy place to read and hang out together as a class. I think I might see if my Mom can create some cheap pillow covers as those pillows are getting pretty beat up.

Just a final picture of my class from the entrance. I still need to move quite a bit of stuff around, including that desk in the front left. The computers don't work well and I'm debating if I want my computer nerdy husband to help fix them, I'd love to have them but not if they're not going to work. I think I need a comfier chair too...

So there you have it, my class... for now! I need to decorate, you can only take so much baby blue!

I'm not a fan of adding pictures using blogger. I find it hard to get them where I want them, they move around and cover my text and the preview, posting window and final blog window all have them in different spots. Grr. Any suggestions?

Horray for Summer!

Welcome to July!

Tonight Hubby and I went for a walk, and I took some pictures. I was playing with aperture and shutter speeds, trying to get it just right. My brother in law is a "professional" (uncertified) photographer and he lent me his 50mm 1.8 lens. I've loved playing with it... however, I think I want one now! I love having an SLR, I've been wanting one for so long. Hubby bought it for me in December as an early grad present (really early!), a wonderful surprise. I have an album on facebook of my top ten photos that I've taken, I limit it to 10 and then just change them up as I find new favourites. Eventually I'll share some here. :)

From tonight, this is where I live (except not really, this sadly isn't my backyard, it's a park by my house).
And, a picture of my puppy, Oliver (aka Da Bubbies- we call him this more than his given name, that's for when he's in trouble "Oliver Bubbies Goat Lastname!" While this is just a picture of him being cute, we also made him climb a tree, hang out on a post and tightrope walk... we find our fun where we can!

I'm excited. Hubby, Oliver and I are going to visit my parents on Friday. My parents moved from my old hometown last October, lived in an RV and finally just moved into a real house in their new town so we're going down to help them move in and see the place. I'm very much looking forward to it. I (mostly) enjoy my parents. Plus, big God-send, hubby has been asked to do a presentation on Monday (during our Vacation) in a town 2 hours from my parents so his work is now paying for all of our gas down and back! Yay! After me being in school for two years, a mortgage and just living we're not rich folks by any means, God does provide! And, there will be extra "gas money" left over for shopping, =D I loves me some shoppin'!

Now I'm going to go watch "The Deadliest Catch" with hubby. I love TLC! (I don't love Jon and Kate anymore though, talk about giving up on the sanctity of marriage, sigh)
